RAW converter comparison: X-T1 files
Images shot with 23mm f/1.4 at f/8, ISO 200 1/340 sec AFS autofocus. Images represent about 25% of the total frame. For comparison I have included a 100% crop JPEG out of the camera saved from from default settings in Lightroom 5.3.
These are 100% screen captures and saved as PNGs (I have only trial software for IridientDeveloper, PhotoNinja). Converters were set for no sharpening and default color noise reduction. Note the color artifacts and smearing in some files (especially Aperture). Adobe Camera Raw 8.4rc has halos around each tree branch, giving a soft look -- halos do not go away if sharpening is turned up. PhotoNinja is good except it can't seem to handle bright sky highlights -- get indigo color just before saturation. The furnished RAW converter from SILKYPX is very good. Probably the best for technical conversions (at least for this image) is Iridient Developer (Mac only) -- it handles highlights very well, has most accurate color and with sharpening gives the most detail and micro contrast -- at least in my view at the moment. When I get time I will add the best rendering I can get with adjustments to the default settings.
The second set of images shows results of conversions optimized for sharpness and detail, exposure and color -- not just default settings. The images are screen captures of conversions displayed at 100%. The last image in the series shows the un-cropped image to see where the cropped area came from. Viewing these live on my monitor it looks like PhotoNinja has the most detail. Shots made just before sunset, hence the warm tones.
Be sure to view these files at Original size -- put your cursor over the large preview and select Original. Use keyboard arrows to move between files once enlarged.
